Orleans Parish has area’s highest average flood insurance premium

Louisiana had the third most premiums through the National Flood Insurance Program as of May 31, with policyholders having paid $332.6 million into the program.
The total that would be paid out in a worst-case scenario would be $107.97 billion.
Here’s how the average premium through the NFIP measured up among area parishses:
– Orleans: 88,421 policies at an average of $884.19
– Plaquemines: 6,076 policies at an average of $761.56
– Jefferson: 97,593 policies at an average of $727.96
– St. Charles: 11,885 policies at an average of $676.75
– St. John: 6,464 policies at an average of $638.10
– St. Bernard: 12,097 policies at an average of $573.45
– St. Tammany: 35,664 policies at an average of $553.76 and
– St. James: 770 policies at an average of $408.07.
Statewide, there were 483,779 policies at an average of $687.59, while there were 5.6 million policies nationwide at an average of $687.59.
Florida had the most at 2.1 million policies at an average of $478.73, followed by Texas with 669,548 policies at an average of $521.18.
