Standing near the Iberveille Housing development in New Orleans, just off Tulane Ave and the interstate, we had a great view of the old Palass Hotel implosion. The immediate noise was so loud, you can see in the video a jolt of the camera. The remaining sequential explosions were timely, yet not near as loud as the first. For about 5 seconds, the world stood still. Birds flew away from the area, but we all sat and waited. It almost seemed as though something had gone wrong. The explosions had detonated, but the building was still standing. Then within a few seconds, the old hotel progressively collapsed as planned. The rubble was kept from the nearby interstate, and went off without a hitch. The implosion was quite a scene and the crowds screamed with joy that it was successful.
